Federal credits and a new 2026 roof
For new projects completed in 2026, do not budget for the former federal homeowner energy credits under Sections 25C or 25D; eligibility ended after December 31, 2025. Check current utility or manufacturer offers for your exact address, product, installation date, and available funding.
Conventional roof shingles and structural roofing are not solar equipment. Do not treat an ordinary roof replacement as an eligible solar installation.
Review current IRS home energy credit guidance.
Check local offers before choosing materials
Ask your utility or program administrator whether an offer is currently open, whether your property and product qualify, and whether approval is required before installation. Confirm any application deadline and funding limit directly with the program.
Keep the project documentation
Keep the written scope, itemized estimate, product specifications, permits, installation records, invoices, and any written program approval. Your roof choice should also account for ventilation, weather exposure, drainage, installation requirements, and warranty terms.
Plan your project budget
Get an estimate for your actual roof condition, material choice, and installation scope. Count an incentive only after its eligibility and amount are confirmed.
Financing may be available through third-party lenders for qualified applicants. Availability, APR, fees, down payment, and repayment terms depend on the lender and approval. Review the complete loan terms before accepting.
