Attached ADUs

A separate home, connected to yours.

An attached ADU adds independent living space alongside the primary home. Think through both households together: entrances, outdoor space, light, noise and everyday privacy.

Design around the connection

Review the shared wall, roof connection and how people reach each entrance. Place windows and outdoor seating so each household has privacy. A useful floor plan also accounts for laundry, storage and access to the yard.

Understand the existing home

Document the original structure before planning the addition. Foundation conditions, roof geometry, existing windows and utility locations can change the scope. Ask how construction will affect occupied rooms and which services may need temporary shutdowns.

Compare the alternatives

Compare an attached layout with a detached building and a garage conversion before selecting a design. The smallest building footprint is not always the least disruptive project. Begin with a property review and a written list of what the estimate includes.
